One day, Matías woke up, had breakfast, and left his aunt’s house at Dock Sud, where he and his mother, Nancy, were staying. He left that morning, determined to find a school where he could finish up his high school education. He had clearly envisioned this goal ever since he’d said goodbye to his father, Humberto, who still earns a living working a food truck in downtown Ciudad del Este. Matías’ resolve led him to not only finish high school at the Liceo 3, but also to enroll and complete the Forge Foundation program. Matías himself states that the long hours he put in at Forge gave him a different outlook – he learned how to ask questions, to listen and to believe in his own potential. All this, added to his personal drive, led him to get a job in the exports department of the TNT Company.
