If you are a shy person, life can be tough. Andrea knows about this firsthand. She took the Food Service course at the Forge Foundation, where her classmates and instructors encouraged her to come out of her shell. “The most important thing for me was that I learned how to interact with people,” she now says with confidence. That process of opening up was slow, yet intense. Her chance to prove herself was when a major restaurant chain was hiring several positions for its new location. Getting the job was the easy part. Once she was hired, she went through the wringer – she had to wait on tables of 20+ guests, she dropped an entire tray of wine glasses; she forgot a demanding diner’s order… But it all came out OK. “Table by table, my confidence grew,” she explains. Andrea adds this bit of wisdom, “I am in control now. I don’t let situations control me.”
